Ernie was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. A good stick handler, he was also blessed with exceptional speed that thrilled the fans. He was one of the stars of the 1911 V.A.C. (Vancouver Athletic Club) team that defeated the famous New Westminster Salmonbellies and claimed the Minto Cup.
