John was a multi-sport athlete, including star hockey player with McGill and Habs Draft pick, but it is at lacrosse that he experienced his greatest success and where he developed into one of the best athletes to come from Burnaby – perhaps one of the best two-way players in the game. In his 4 years with Burnaby Cablevision 7, years with Vancouver Burrards, 2 years with Richmond Outlaws, and 2 years with the Coquitlam Adanacs John amassed a total of 301 goals, 510 assists and 974 penalty minutes. John is one of the few players to win three Minto Cups in a row, and one of very few to be Assistant or Captain of each of those teams and winner of the Jim McConaghy Award. His coach relied on John to play both the power play and the short man as he exhibited both defensive and offensive power. His style of play did not alter over the years, he was tenacious in the corners, fiercely competitive and was known to hit well above his weight class but his teammates often say that his biggest asset was his team play. His tenacity and desire to be a genuine leader help solidify his nomination for posthumous induction into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
