Rick Lum
Officials - Class of 2023

One of the top tier minor and senior officials in lacrosse, Rick started his lacrosse career with Burnaby Minor Lacrosse and soon after joined BCLOA as a minor official, starting his officiating career at the age of 12.

Rick participated in numerous Minor Provincial & National tournaments and quickly realized that his passion for the sport of lacrosse was in officiating.

He continued playing up to the Junior level while officiating (1973-2001), but with his focus on officiating Rick was quickly elevated to officiating at the senior level, which later included multiple selection for National Minto Cup, Mann Cup and Presidents Cup championships.

Rick was hired in by the National Lacrosse League as an on-floor official and quickly excelled into being assigned as Crew Chief for games. Soon after in 2004 he was assigned to officiate in his first NLL Championship game, in total he received (5) NLL Championship finals assignments.

After completing 9 seasons in the NLL, Rick resigned as an NLL official at the end of 2009 to resume his other passion, coaching which included stints with Coquitlam Jr A, NLL Washington Stealth, and Colorado Mammoth. However, when the time came to move on from Colorado Mammoth, in an unprecedented move by the NLL, Rick was hired back by the National Lacrosse League as an official.

Through his career Rick was selected to referee at multiple National Championship events including 8 assignments as a Minto Cup referee, 7 assignments as a Mann Cup referee, and 2 assignments at President Cups.  Rick also served as the Referee-in-Chief for both Minto and Mann cup tournaments and officiated in 5 NLL championship games.
